Hershey Park

In mid April we drove to Pennsylvania and met some friends for a day of fun at Hershey Park. It was Nathan and Andrew’s first trip to an amusement park and boy, the place did not disappoint! We all had a blast walking around and riding on rides all day. It was such a successful trip that both Nathan and Andrew are still talking about this exciting outing nearly a month later! We will definitely be heading back next year. By then Nathan is hoping that he will be tall enough to ride the cool looking roller coasters!

"Are we there yet?" was a popular question from this excited little boy!

Andrew on the other hand was less excited in the car. His mood eventually perks up when he spots the rides from the parking lot.

Tee-ball

With Nathan turning four years old at the end of April we were able to sign him up on a tee-ball team with Joe being one of the coaches. Both Joe and Nathan were incredibly excited for this opportunity to spend some quality father-son time together. I found it really sweet watching Joe help coach a group of active four and five year olds and Nathan looked so adorable in his team shirt and hat. The first practice went well and the boys (old and young) had a lot of fun. Although Nathan was a little reserved at first, he eventually became more comfortable and finished the hour long practice with great enthusiasm. Go Red Sox!

Egg Hunt

This year our friend’s invited us to join them for their neighborhood’s Easter egg hunt. We all had a fun time watching the little ones collect their eggs and enjoy some candy. This was the first time the boys have participated in an Easter egg hunt and I am sure it won’t be the last!

Egg Decorating

This was the first year I dyed and decorated eggs with the boys. In all honestly, the whole experience was pretty hectic as the boys splashed dye everywhere, fought over the “magic crayon,” and accidentally dropped eggs on the floor- three different times! However despite the chaos that goes along with decorating eggs, the boys had a great time. Nathan was especially enthusiastic about this activity and must have thanked me for letting him paint eggs a dozen times.

Seeing my boys’ faces light up as I let them explore all the paint colors, dyes, and stickers was worth all the extra effort it took to clean up that afternoon. I can’t believe I nearly forgot the joy this simple Easter pastime can bring into a home.

All I have to say is good thing I can get away with doing this only once a year!

Can You Say…?

Andrew’s vocabulary is really starting to grow. I have a hunch it has something to do with our little in-house teacher. Nathan has found it fun and entertaining to encourage Andrew to say new words and Andrew is quite happy to participate. All this practicing is definitely paying off as Andrew continues to surprise us with his budding language skills.

Roughhousing with Daddy

Lately one of the boys’ favorite after dinner activities involves roughhousing with Daddy. I am not sure who initiated the roughhousing but it is obvious all three Witt boys have a blast doing it!

I enjoy watching from the sidelines. It brings back fond memories from my childhood when my brother, sister and I would wrestle with our Dad in the middle of the living room. I remember shrieking with laughter and having so much fun when we tackled each other. It is pretty neat to watch this fun activity come full circle with my boys and their Daddy. Hopefully Nathan and Andrew will look back and remember these nights with fond memories just like their Mommy and Daddy always will.

Andrew at 18 Months

Our little Andrew just turned 18 months old and I am struggling to believe it. In my head I think of him as just a baby. But then I look at him and see something entirely different. I witness Andrew’s physical skills expanding, hear his vocabulary blossoming, and witness his independence and self-help skills flourishing. And it hits me. My little Andrew is no longer a tiny baby. Instead he is a smart, curious, funny, (sometimes ornery), loving, little boy. Andrew has his own preferences and cute little quirks. His personality is really starting to shine and I love being able to get to know him as a developing toddler.

As a typical boy, Andrew LOVES cars, trucks, buses, and trains. He is drawn to anything with wheels. I guess he had no choice with Nathan as his older brother! He spends hours a day racing cars, building train tracks for the trains to ride on, and racing more cars. I find it incredibly cute to watch how excited Andrew gets when he spots a large fire truck or bus on the street. Seeing these large vehicles drive by makes his day.

Andrew also has a sensitive spot for animals. He loves watching the dogs going for walks around the neighborhood. And when he sees a picture of an animal in a book he will give it a kiss. As you will notice from one of the pictures below Andrew has a special brown puppy he carries everywhere around the house. The puppy also has played a very important part at bed time. Andrew will willingly go to sleep without a fuss just as long as puppy is in his arms. It is pretty adorable.

Lately Andrew has been drawn to books. I will often find him sitting alone in a corner looking through all the pages. Right now he has a few favorites (Baby Tamer, Winnie the Pooh, Sesame Street) that Joe and I have read many times. Andrew doesn’t seem to mind because he keeps requesting them again and again at story time.

Our little guy has started talking. Joe and I love being able to hear him use his words. It took a little while longer (compared to Nathan) before Andrew started talking but, now his vocabulary is growing quickly every day. Nathan is enjoying the chance to teach Andrew new words and so far, he has been a good teacher. Some of Andrew’s most commonly used words at the moment are the following:

Andrew is a climber. This is pretty unfamiliar territory for us because Nathan was never quite this agile at this age. I find that I can no longer underestimate Andrew’s climbing abilities. He has surprised me on a few recent occasions. First, I was cooking dinner the other night only to look up and see Andrew standing in the middle of the train table in our living room. The next day he figured out how to climb on our couch and was leaning over the back cushions to get my attention. It is hard to keep up with this guy. He is so fast. I can only imagine what he will do next!

Andrew is such an independent, happy, easy-going child. I feel so blessed to have Andrew in our lives. He brings a lot of love and laughter into our family. I couldn’t imagine life without looking into his beautiful blue eyes and kissing his smiling face every day.

Together

Nathan and Andrew’s relationship has really started to blossom over the past couple of months. Early on it was obvious these boys share a mutual love for each other. But now, I can see a real friendship taking shape. They genuinely seem to enjoy spending time with each other. And when they are apart they often ask for their brother to return.

It wasn’t until recently that Joe and I realized just how well Nathan and Andrew play together. We can’t remember the last time we were asked to sit and play cars with Nathan. Instead of his parents, Nathan has found a formidable play partner in his younger brother. And Andrew couldn’t be more welcoming of his new role. Watching my boys as they happily hang out together is such a wonderful sight to see.

Snowfall

When the boys woke up last weekend to the sight of snow they were thrilled! For months Nathan has been patiently waiting for snow so that he could help Daddy shovel it off the cars and sidewalks. After breakfast he couldn’t wait to go outside and try out his new McQueen snow shovel. And Andrew was excited to just go along with the plans and spend some time walking around outside in his winter boots.

Once we got everyone bundled up and stepped foot outside we realized that the snow was actually more of a thick layer of ice. This of course made it a challenge to maneuver around but, since we were already committed to the activity at this point we continued on with the plans. I am glad we did because we had a fun time together. Nathan immediately set out to work getting the ice off the sidewalk while Andrew and I spent a few mintues walking (or sliding rather) on our short walk around the neighborhood. The boys loved the change of scenery and getting some fresh air outside. The morning activity was also great for expending energy. By the time nap-time came around in the afternoon, both Nathan and Andrew were more than ready for it!
